"The whole culture is telling you to hurry, while the art tells you to take your time. Always take your time." Junot Diaz
Creating the collage a La Mistinguette Studios is likely the longest time I've spent working on an art project. Not only have I been adding magazine clippings every couple of months for 7 years but some of the images I had already collected and have held onto long before that. It isnt taking so many years due to a lack of content. On the contrary, I have a large pile waiting to be added to the walls but I add only approximately 3-5 images when the time feels right to do so. I'd be lying if I said I was this patient with all of my projects big or small. I'm nonetheless very connected to this project and at no time feel like I'm putting it on the back burner and procrastinating or postponing its completion. Instead, I am enjoying the process of watching it slowly develop. And for that reason it's a nice reminder that some things just require or take more time than othe...
Although a very small gesture, sometimes argued too small, its a positive impactful gesture nonetheless. One that is intended to strengthen the confidence and sense of safety of members of our community; fellow HUMANS. Without having to say a word, the safety pin symbolizes solidarity in the resistance of hate. Wearing a safety pin, or this very cute safety pin on a button by Mia X Marks the Spot, expresses the commitment to stand up to negativity, discrimination and prejudice, and stand by any individuals experiencing it. Make the statement that you will not tolerate the intolerant and will act as an ambassador for safety.
The lighting in the hallway, the aesthetic of the light fixtures and the design they create on the walls, sets a romantic vibe that fills my heart by their artistry and elegance. I loved these vintage chandeliers at first sight, but I had no idea just how much beauty and class they would exhibit. A "romantic vibe" is probably not what you expect of your go to wellness and beauty destination. However I find it rather appropriate for the place you build upon and show yourself love, and the place where we provide our passions; our crafts and services from the heart, that make you feel and look good.
The overall aesthetic of La Mistingeutte Studios is representative of the transition of Art Nouveau design into Art Deco, which gradually occured between approximately 1910 and 1920. And for this reason many authentic furniture and decorative peices from this time period are found throughout this workspace.
“Why not make progress your most important product? The I-can-do-better philosophy works magic. When you ask yourself, “How can I do better?” Your creative power is switched on and ways for doing things better suggest themselves.”
I found this beauty 5 years ago and she has been residing in the front studio oh so elegantly ever since.
When I got her, I was told by the store owner that there is a male figure whom she is supposed to be paired with.
Well, although I have yet to find her counterpart, it’s nice to know he’s out there somewhere. 💘
To those of you that are as stone cold patient as she,
do create boundaries based on your experiences, but don’t create limitations because of them.
Your experiences are valuable lessons for your own personal growth and insight,
do treat them as examples of what, how and who you want and don’t want.
But if you’re constantly living in the past;
reminiscing of a love of the past and/or aka torturing yourself with a heartbreak of the past, you are in essence focusing on a particular amount of love given or shared at one period of time and that may be limiting your love and your ability to give love and receive love.
Instead, if you can focus your thoughts of love energy to...
Naming things manages to provide an additional creative life to something,
just by defining it with words, giving it a title.
I named this wall in 2013, without hesitation, “The Badass and the Beautiful”.
It’s likely that it seems self explanatory, but this wall is so much more than the notably badass and beautiful women and the recognition of their successful careers following their passions and pursuing their dreams, living fully, as performers and artists. They are, indeed, badass and beautiful.
But, equally badass and beautiful, is the capturing of these moments in time. Each of these photographs are a work of art.
They are subtly detailed and heavily descriptive of a story worth telling, imagining and fantasizing about.
Even without any color, they glow with glamour. The composition is so simple yet elaborate.
The modeling/the poses and expressions, the lightening, the decor, textures, fashion, hairstyles and makeup, is an impressive display of creativity, balance and artistry.
