The lighting in the hallway, the aesthetic of the light fixtures and the design they create on the walls, sets a romantic vibe that fills my heart by their artistry and elegance. I loved these vintage chandeliers at first sight, but I had no idea just how much beauty and class they would exhibit. A "romantic vibe" is probably not what you expect of your go to wellness and beauty destination. However I find it rather appropriate for the place you build upon and show yourself love, and the place where we provide our passions; our crafts and services from the heart, that make you feel and look good.
The overall aesthetic of La Mistingeutte Studios is representative of the transition of Art Nouveau design into Art Deco, which gradually occured between approximately 1910 and 1920. And for this reason many authentic furniture and decorative peices from this time period are found throughout this workspace.
“Why not make progress your most important product? The I-can-do-better philosophy works magic. When you ask yourself, “How can I do better?” Your creative power is switched on and ways for doing things better suggest themselves.”
Naming things manages to provide an additional creative life to something,
just by defining it with words, giving it a title.
I named this wall in 2013, without hesitation, “The Badass and the Beautiful”.
It’s likely that it seems self explanatory, but this wall is so much more than the notably badass and beautiful women and the recognition of their successful careers following their passions and pursuing their dreams, living fully, as performers and artists. They are, indeed, badass and beautiful.
But, equally badass and beautiful, is the capturing of these moments in time. Each of these photographs are a work of art.
They are subtly detailed and heavily descriptive of a story worth telling, imagining and fantasizing about.
Even without any color, they glow with glamour. The composition is so simple yet elaborate.
The modeling/the poses and expressions, the lightening, the decor, textures, fashion, hairstyles and makeup, is an impressive display of creativity, balance and artistry.
The hallway at LA Mistinguette is lined with frames displaying black and white photography. Each of these frames were either purchased second hand or reused from a previous location. Local thrift stores were frequented for about a week on the way to and from other errands in order to accumulate black frames in various sizes. By the end of the week, ones that were simply a good fit even if they weren’t black were purchased as well, and then painted black instead.
